Welcome to my page. I am an Assistant Professor at RWTH Aachen University, working at the E.ON Energy Research Center under the Chair of Energy System Economics. I previously completed my doctorate, MPhil, Honours, and undergraduate studies in Economics at the University of Pretoria, where I also held a postdoctoral research position.
I am currently the lead researcher on a bilateral South Africa–Germany research initiative titled SAGE-BRIDGE. This project investigates how societies can transition beyond coal without exacerbating existing inequalities. The central objective is to contribute to the design of a just, inclusive, sustainable, and fair energy transition—one that considers the needs of vulnerable communities alongside those of industry and government. In addition to SAGE-BRIDGE, I am involved in several other research projects that explore the economic, institutional, and distributional implications of energy transitions. Through my work, I aim to generate policy-relevant insights that support equitable and sustainable energy systems across different socio-economic contexts.
My research lies in the field of energy and environmental economics, with a strong foundation in institutional and human development economics. During my doctorate and postdoctoral research at the University of Pretoria, my work primarily adopted a macroeconomic perspective, examining energy and environmental challenges within broader economic and institutional contexts. In my current role in Germany, my research focus has expanded toward the microeconomic dimensions of energy systems, with particular attention to the German energy sector and policy environment..
